澳洲数学竞赛 -- 中学篇

简介

相对小学奥数的有趣,不需要太多准备工作就可以凭借天赋考出不错的成绩,中学奥数才是真正挑战的开始。所有的速竞比赛都不是真正的数竞。中学奥数涉及的知识技巧远远多于学校所教内容,难度和准备时间也随着考试时间的增加成几何级数增长。比如AMO需要两天时间共八个小时完成八道题目。中学奥数,尤其是长考题目,邀请赛,只适合真正喜欢数学,渴望接受挑战,并且愿意为之投入(主要是时间)的学生。

这里也介绍中学数学竞赛,难度由浅到深

AMC

全称是: Australian Mathematics Competition。

这是由Australian Mathematics Trust举办,最为正规的数学竞赛,1978年开始,现在有多个国家参加的比赛。每年七月底八月出举办。
中学分Junior (七八年级),Intermediate (九十年级),Senior(十一和和十二年级)三组。

中学学校都会参加,精英班或者数学Advance班大部分学生会参加

题型:

这个属于速竞比赛,试卷共有30题,中学是75分钟。

每题小分不一样,1-10每题三分 11-20每题四分 21-25每题五 分 26-30 依此为6,7,8,9,10分满分135分。
前面二十五题是选择题,后面五题需要算出答案。难度逐渐增加。前二十题比较简单,大部分学生思考一下都可以解答,21到25题稍难,大概APSMO的难度。最后五题难度增大,较多的数字和组合题目,着重考察孩子的数学逻辑思维,反映速度。最后五题用来筛选在数学上有天赋的学生,这个比赛可以用来学校和AMT作为数学enrichment programm 邀请的参考和依据

比赛目的:

这个比赛主要考察学生的数学思维而不是计算能力和速度。题目最开始很简单,逐渐增加难度,最后几题挑战最有天分的学生。所有的学生都可以从题目中挑战思维和逻辑分析能力
The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and questions are designed so that they can be answered just as quickly without a calculator as with one. The problems get more difficult through the competition, so that at the end they are challenging to the most gifted students. Students of all standards will make progress through the problems, and also be challenged along the way.
评分标准: (按州评比)
• MEDAL (奖牌)
比例为万分之一,奖牌获得者(中学生)和小学满分获得者会获得去总督府参加颁奖仪式的机会
• PRIZE
比例为三百分之一,获奖者可以被邀请AMT各州举办的颁奖仪式并且获得AMT70刀图书卷
• HIGH DISTINCTION
比例为3%,senior为5%
• DISTINCTION
比例为20% (senior为25%)
• CREDIT
比例为55% (senior为60%)
难度系数: 2 out of 10 ,适合所有学生参加

备注:很多学生从七年级才真正开始知道接触奥数,由于绝大多数精英学校精英班学生都会参加,所以这个成绩对于学校安排数学快班,奥数班,参加奥数俱乐部会有指导性意义。在传统理科强的精英中学,很多孩子会强烈感受到超级牛娃们的压力。
这个比赛也是AMT在各州邀请学生进入AMOC组织的math enrichment programm的重要指标 (竞争激烈的新,维洲需要prize以上,不激烈的至少HD)

MCYA

全称: Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians (MCYA)

目的在于给数学上有兴趣有天赋的孩子进一步拓展知识和思维的活动。这个在中学里面比较普及了 .对象是三到十年级学生。由学校组织,一共分为三个阶段:Challenge,Enrichment,和Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad (AIMO),AIMO在后面单讲

Challenge:

题型:
每年三四月进行,四周时间,由学校根据自己的时间来决定。开卷,学生独立完成,中学分 Junior (Year 7–8) 和 Intermediate (Year 9–10)

共六道大题,每道大题四道小题

评分标准:

有high distinction distiction,credit等几挡

难度系数: 2 out of 10 ,适合top20%学生参加

准备方法:

结合往年试题 还有其他适合中学生的竞赛题目,比如墨儿本大学组织的中学数学竞赛,UNSW组织中学数学竞赛,Tournament of the town,mathcount 等


Enrichment

每年三四月进行,十六周时间,由学校根据自己的时间来决定。开卷,学生独立完成.

有七个独立的部分。每个部分有一本学习资料,外加相应的一份题目。学生需要独立学习资料上面的内容,并且完成题目解答。有些题目需要写出推导过程。
给中学生的级别有:Dirichlet (Years 6–7), Euler (Years 7–8), Gauss (Years 8–9), Noether (veryable students in Years 9–10) and Polya (top 10% Year 10). Newton and Dirichlet have 8 problems, Euler and Gauss have 12 problems, and Noether and Polya have 16 problems.

评分标准:

有high distinction ,distiction,credit等几挡

难度系数: 3 out of 10 ,适合top10%学生参加

AIMO

全称: (Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad)
The AIMO is one of the competitions used to determine which students are selected to a number of invitation only events, including other mathematics competitions, enrichment classes and training schools. It gives talented students an opportunity to be recognised and to participate in activities which will enhance their enjoyment and knowledge of mathematics.
如果说AMC还是打游戏样有趣,那么AIMO则是数竞从速竞向长考转变的一个比赛,也是AMT选拔最优秀的数竞学生进入选拔赛和School of excerllence 的重要依据。虽然是给十年级以下学生的比赛,但是内容涉及代数、几何、数论、组合或概率,深度广度远远超过学校所学内容。。这是一个公开比赛,每个学生都可以报名,中学AMC prize winner都会被邀请免费参加。由于这个比赛难度远远大于AMC,没有学过的孩子哪怕AMC成绩很好,拿到题目都会震惊一下,所以我建议7,8年级AMC prize,9,10年级AMC HD以上考虑报名,但是报名前看一看往年考卷,能做出来几道,做到心中有数。AIMO近年来有难度加大的趋势

题型:
AIMO历时4小时,共有10题,每题小分不一样,满分35分,前面八题只要求答案,后面两题,附加题都需要写出推导过程

评分标准:

有 Prize ,high distinction ,distiction,credit等几挡.
这个比赛的大概前一百名会被邀请到下一轮比赛(Senior Contest),特别优秀有潜力的会被直接邀请到AMO

难度系数: 5 out of 10 ,这个适合数学非常有兴趣的学生,在AMC竞赛里成绩出色的学生, at least top 1% of AMC

准备方法:
这个比赛需要系统学习几何 代数 数论和组合知识,可以用学校课本,如果目标高,可以用art of problem introduction系列学习,当然往年试题尽量多做,就算不会,思考后在来看答案,最好每个方法都过一遍

准备这个比赛非常的花时间。临考前作几套题目是无法得到理想成绩

如果你的孩子走到这一步,说明他/她进入全澳大概前一百名。那么真正的数学竞赛从此开始,孩子面对将是大量的课外学习和深度思考,攻克一道道的难题的挑战。伴随这一层层的严格的选拔,有的会放弃有的会坚持到最后,只有六个会进入到最后的塔尖。这个过程是艰苦的,枯燥的,但是对于真正热爱数学的孩子,充满挑战的乐趣。

AMOC Senior Contest

Asian Pacific Mathematics Olympiad (APMO)
时间: 三月
题型:四个小时五道题目,每题七分

难度系数: 9 out of 10 ,热爱数学并且在AMO中表现优异的四十名左右十二年级以下学生会被邀请参加.

International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO)
时间: 七月
题型:两天,各四个小时,六道题目,每题七分
难度系数: 10 out of 10. 全澳洲表现最优异的六个学生,经过几年艰苦学习,层层选拔,会代表澳洲参加每年七月举办的国际奥林匹克数学竞赛


准备:

这个阶段的准备比较复杂。首先学生要有强大的自学能力,脱离学校之外系统学习数论,代数,几何,组合四部分知识,网上,AMT官网上有很多资料,题库,可以结合书本来练习。

高水平数学竞赛教练不好找,对初等数学知识,解题技巧和数竞的流程都要非常熟悉。

孩子足够优秀会被邀请至school of excerllence等camp,得到专业的指导和训练

Canberra Mathematics Enrichment programme

The Canberra Mathematics Enrichment programme consists of enrichment sessions, and the option of participating in the International Tournament of Towns - an international competition organised from Moscow in which Canberra students have participated for many years.
The programme is organised in conjunction with the Australian Mathematics Trust at the University of Canberra and is about enrichment rather than acceleration through the school syllabus. Students will be exposed to a range of extra-curricular material, with an emphasis on solving problems in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
The aims of the Programme are to:
• foster enjoyment in mathematics;
• develop problem-solving skills;
• prepare for the Tournament of the Towns competition.

每一年AMOC都会举办一系列的培训课程。25位在AMC,AIMO,AMOC里面表现优异的学生会被邀请,一半为junior,一半为senior,其中junior只能被邀请一次,(意味着第二年如果没有明显进步将不会被邀请)senior被作为IMO team的备选

从时间和内容来看,这是非常紧凑,难度很大的培训,全澳洲最优秀的数学娃会在这里遇到跟他们同样优秀的学生一起学习进步,挑战自己,这是非常宝贵的机会和经历。

(注:据说近两年增加邀请人数,估计为了发掘更多有潜力的学生)


AMOC SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE (12月在墨尔本)
Each year AMOC holds three training schools and conducts a mentor program. About 25 students attend the AMOC School of Excellence held in Melbourne in December. About half are contenders for the next IMO team. The remainder are Year 10 (or younger) students who are regarded as strong contenders for future teams.

The students are divided into a senior group and a junior group.

The program covered the four major areas of number theory, geometry, combinatorics and algebra. Each day would start at 8:30am with lectures or an exam and go until 12:30pm. After a one-hour lunch break they would resume the lecture program at 1:30pm. By 4pm participants would usually have free time, followed by dinner at 6pm. Finally, each evening would round out with a problem session, topic review, or exam review from 6:45pm until 8:30pm
AMOC SELECTION SCHOOL(2月在悉尼)
Following the December school, participants are invited to complete an amount of correspondence work.

The IMO Selection School is held in April, normally in Sydney over Easter. Like the School of Excellence, 25 students attend. Students are provided with preparatory work for each of these schools.

After the selection of the IMO team, the six team members plus reserve are assigned mentors, usually past Olympians from their own town, and undertake specially prepared exercises on a regular basis.

Finally, the team members attend a training camp immediately prior to the IMO, usually held at or near the IMO venue. In recent years this has been held jointly with the UK team and culminates in the ‘Ashes contest’, held annually since 2008.

下面介绍以下非AMT组织的其他数学竞赛。

这些竞赛的目的是为了发掘,吸引优秀数理人材,在竞赛中成绩优异的会得到大学青睐并且提供大学学习的奖学金.

这几个数学竞赛和AMT的竞赛有所不同,虽然同是选拔优秀的数学人材,由于目标不是IMO,所以题目以逻辑分析为主,不需要大量技巧性的练习。

墨儿本大学组织的中学数学竞赛


这是1972年以来由墨儿本大学数学和统计学院举办,目的是挖掘和奖励真正热爱数学和有天分学生。
每年大概三到五千学生参加,一百五十个学生获奖。三个小时的竞赛,共分三个组,初级(7,8年级),中级(9,10 年级)和高级(11,2年级)
About the Competition
The competition has been in existence since 1972. It is wholly organised and run by a staff member of the School of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Melbourne. The competition is of a demanding standard, designed to identify real mathematical talent. Between 3000 and 5000 students enter, and some 150 are awarded prizes. The nature of the problems is different from that encountered in school mathematics syllabi, being less mechanical and requiring a higher level of mathematical insight and creativity. As such, participation is likely to be rewarding only to those students who have a real love for, and ability in, mathematics.

The competition is separated into three divisions:
Junior Division - Students in years 7 and 8 sit a two hour exam
Intermediate Division - Students in years 9 and 10 sit a three hour exam
Senior Division - Students in years 11 and 12 sit a three hour exam

UNSW组织中学数学竞赛

The UNSW School Mathematics Competition has been run each year since 1962. It is open to participation by secondary school students in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. It is run in two divisions: Junior, up to and including Year 10, and Senior, Years 11 and 12.

The competition is designed to assess mathematical insight and ingenuity rather than efficiency in tackling routine examples. Students are encouraged to enter the competition if they are able to make some progress towards the solution of at least one of the past problems (see Past Competitions).

The competition is a three-hour open-book exam. Entrants are allowed to take any books and materials, but not computers with Internet connections, into the examination.

Each year, about 600 students participate, 300 in each division, and prizes and/or certificates are awarded to about 60 in each division. In recent years, the UNSW School Mathematics Competition has served as one of the selectors for the Australian team in the International Mathematical Olympiad. Some of our winners have gone on to receive medals there.

The Beautiful Mind Scholarship - UGCA 1392 ($5000 per year)

Awarded to two recipients each year (one male and one female) who must have completed the HSC (or equivalent) in the year prior to the year of the award. Applicants will be assessed on academic merit, based on the UNSW Annual School Mathematics Competition results in the year prior to the awarding of this Scholarship.

Students who have been awarded a Distinction or above in the competition should apply directly to the Head of School, School of Mathematics and Statistics, stating which Bachelor of Science degree they would be pursuing at UNSW. Applicants must be commencing full-time study in Stage 1 of a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science (Advanced), Bachelor of Science (Advanced Mathematics), Bachelor of Science (International) degree in the Faculty of Science.

The Michael Dorrell Award in Mathematics - ($5000 total)

The purpose of the Award is to encourage two exceptional students (one male and one female), identified as recipients of The Beautiful Mind Scholarship, to undertake study at UNSW. This scholarship is sponsored by Michael Dorrell, Senior Managing Director at Stonepeak Partners, New York. Michael has been investing in the infrastructure space for over a decade, and has one of the most successful investment track records in the North American infrastructure investment sector.

WA Junior Mathematics Olympiad

The aim of the competition is to identify the most gifted students in Mathematics.

Tournament of the Towns

The Tournament of the Towns is an international competition with more than a hundred participating cities around the world. It is conducted each year in two stages - Autumn and Spring. Each stage has two papers: O (ordinary) and A (advanced). There are also two streams: Junior (for students in Grades 8 - 10) and Senior (Grades 11, 12).

The level of difficulty of A-level paper is comparable with that of AMO. O-level paper is slightly easier.

1。我的孩子应不应该学奥数

这个要分。

如果孩子是个文科生,并且对数学兴趣不大,孩子跟着学校数学课认真的学,就够了

如果孩子在精英中学,尤其JR这样理科很强大的学校,孩子将来的目标是计算机,工程,医科,金融专业,那么需要额外学一些。这样的学生可以跟着学校进度学习,额外参加AMT组织的AMC,MCYA,新大,墨大组织的数学竞赛,时间不用太多,每周两个小时坚持下去,可以有很大收获。另外几何代数可以作一些challenge 题目作为补充。学校练习不够基础不好,到学习4U或者specilist math 会感到吃力

如果孩子非常喜欢数学,并且有强烈的意愿进入AMOC 的邀请赛和培训学校(school of excellence)那么除了积极参加上面所说的各种竞赛并且保持优秀成绩之外,最好从小学高年级开始自学初等数学的内容,争取七八年级在AIMO中取得好成绩。

2. 能走到最后的孩子是什么样的

对数学强烈的热爱, 对数学强烈的热爱, 对数学强烈的热爱, 说三遍是因为这个是孩子自推,克服困难的动力
敏锐的数感,不拘套路的发散思维和强大的逻辑能力
强大的自学和举一反三的能力
能坐的住,有耐心,可以几个小时甚至花几天时间思考一道题目而不是不会就直接翻答案
善于管理时间


3. 奥数需要补习吗
家长支持和好老师的带领可以孩子少走弯路,但是大部分时间还是需要学生自己琢磨,很多学习材料,题目答案还是自学为主


4 学习奥数有什么好处吗?

中学数竞需要大量时间,尤其到了邀请赛阶段,所以家长肯定会考虑时间成本,就跟体育,音乐一样的
奥数就跟音乐似的,每天半个小时可以培养乐感和音乐素养,每天四个小时那就是往专业发展了

奥数也是,每周两个小时,锻炼思维,对将来大学学习,职业发展都有好处
要竞赛出成绩,学生有高度的自制力,每天两个小时以上,牺牲休假打游戏的机会
就算没有走到最后,成为最后得六个之一,对学生的意志品质,逻辑思维都是非常好的锻炼。

当然走到最后的学生,在申请名校和奖学金上会很大优势

5. 如果练到一定分数不长,还要不要学

家长还是应该鼓励孩子继续,突破瓶颈,战胜自己的惰性,孩子才会成长。当然时间分配是可以根据孩子的情况作调整

大坑莫入
这是我填坑之前占地的,但是用来作为感悟确实再形象不过了。


跟音乐,体育,其他各种活动类似,这是一个大坑,尤其是决心走数竞道路的孩子和家长,要做好思想准备。
这是一条艰苦的路,需要投入大量的时间(可能还有金钱),但是不一定得到相应的或者期望的结果。一旦进入邀请阶段,孩子才会知道,原来数学题可以这么出,可以有这么多方法解,可以这么复杂花时间多去思考,最主要可以认识到,原来还有比自己年纪更小更聪明还更加努力的孩子存在。

要不要继续??值不值得投入,这需要学生和家长一起讨论,最终决定的是孩子自己,看他/她有多喜欢数学,愿不愿意为此放弃其他的娱乐时间投入到意见可能没有“回报”的事情上,我指的回报是大学申请的优势,高考成绩加分等。但是我相信通过这个学习过程对学生逻辑思维培养,塑造不畏艰难,自律自信的性格是有百利无害,受益终身的

我讲一个我认识学生的故事:跟很多有天分的数学娃一样,E很小就展现他对数字的热爱和执着。小学GT班给了他学校可以做到的最大的支持,比如允许他作九,十年级学生作的challenge和enrichment数学。父母不懂数学但是把他送进私校希望可以得到更好的培养。不是每个数学老师都可以教他这样有天分的孩子,所以他自己找资料,学习各种数学知识和解题技巧,并在十一年级自学数学4U内容。由于得到的帮助和指点有限,他进入AMT举办的邀请赛比较晚,最后只获得了AMO的银牌,但是这丝毫没有影响他对数学的热爱,他有自己的目标,这个目标促使他最后两年废寝忘食的学习,最后以4U state raninking,总分99。8的成绩进入澳洲最好的大学学习数学。谈起他现在的选的数学课,他是滔滔不绝,他的理想是在澳洲结束本科学习后去美国或者欧州进一步学习数学,取得Phd学位。

E的故事,说明,兴趣是最好的老师,是学生进步的动力,金牌,名校不应该参加数学竞赛的目的,而是bonus。愿每一个参加数竞的孩子享受这个过程并且在过程中成长。

现在用澳洲数学陶哲轩的话来结感悟:
奥数就像是在可以预知的条件下进行短跑比赛,而数学研究则是在现实生活的不可预知条件下进行的一场马拉松。

AIMO难度确实远远大于AMC,上年和今年儿子都只有前部份的某3题对,估计四小时的比赛都是白坐。
